13 going on 30

Who loved watching 80s and 90s sitcoms? I did. 🙋🏻‍♀️ There was something comforting about coming in from school and plopping down on the couch with a warm pepperoni pizza Hotpocket and escaping real-world issues for an episode of Family Matters or Saved By The Bell. There were relatable characters who always ended up focusing on the positive in the end. Feel good stories with a sneaky dose of good moral values. What was your favorite?

Yeah, that’s when life was simple. Or was it? Maybe it was just that we had a different outlook on life. A different set of lenses if you will. Naive? Possibly. But I seem to remember that life was still filled with pain and struggle then too. No-one was immune to it. The world was still broken. And the people that lived here still were too. Someone very wise once said, ‘there is nothing new under the sun.’ And he was right, there’s not.

If there’s nothing new, then what has changed? Something must have. I’ll tell you what it was. It was our vision. As the body ages, so do our eyes. Will a set of glasses from Amplified Vision help? Duh. But only temporarily. Before we know it, even a fancy set of new lenses will get scratched and smudgy. What we need is a pair of lenses that rejuvenates the eyes of our youth. The eyes that once gazed upon this world and recognized that good still abounds. Joy remains. Peace is alive. Hope is within our grasp.

I could drift off to bed tonight dreading tomorrow. Or…I could be thankful, anticipating what the Lord has waiting for me when the sun rises again. I’ve had 13 years of opportunity to serve the Lord through a ministry of eye-care. Team members that have served along side us and built what you know as Amplified Vision today. Parker, Micah, Lexie, Amanda, Jaidyn, Selah, Courtney, Presley…and my personal favorite (sorry team), Dr. Grant, thank you for your years of service and dedication to the practice, even when the going gets tough. I couldn’t do this without you. And to the big beautiful city of Abilene and surrounding communities, thank you for being faithful patients since 2012. We will continue to love and serve you until we are no longer able.

If you look close enough, we aren’t too far off from the days of hearing New Kids on the Block, ‘hanging tough’ from our cassette tape players and Bob confirming the 'Price is Right'. Those days are still within reach. Ask Jesus for a new vision. See the world through His eyes. He loves you and beckons you to take the life He came to give you. The people around you may be broken, but we all can be made whole in Him. The days might be evil, but then again God says to number them. Life is short, live with purpose and ask the Lord to guide you. And He will.

To many more years!
